After drying my eyes and getting a little food, I was ready to start episode 9. It picked up right where episode 8 left off. Except I didn’t cry this time. *success!*

- Yoon Ye-hee as Yoon Hyun-sook – Jin-heon’s “aunt”
- Lee Kyu-han as Min Hyun-woo – Sam-soon’s ex
- Lee Yoon-mi as Jang Chae-Ri
Sam-soon is still talking with her deceased father when the episode starts. We are reminded how unlucky Sam-soon is in love and her father imparts some wisdom.
Sam-soon’s sister comes back to the table and dad has disappeared. Yi-young then gives Sam-soon some very sage advice in telling her to give up on Jin-heon. (duh)
Meanwhile, in the land of ‘ew!’, we see Jin-heon and Hee-jin cleaning each others ears with q-tips. What. The. Hell. I guess that’s a sign of true love? “Come here hon, I’ve got wax build up because I maintain poor hygiene.” , “Oh baby! Ear wax, here I come!” *headdesk*
Across town, Sam-soon gets a phone call from Jin-heon’s mother telling her to be ready in the morning as she will be picked up in a car. Jin-heon’s mother really doesn’t want him dating Hee-jin and is planning on using Sam-soon to break them up. (This always works, by the way)
To Sam-soon’s surprise, she is going to a memorial service in honor of Jin-heon’s brother and sister-in-law that were killed in that crash 3 years ago. Not only is she surprised, but so is Jin-heon. Nothing makes going to pay homage to your dead sibling more awkward than running into your ex-girlfriend at said memorial service. Very awkward.
Here, Sam-soon learns a lot about the accident and Jin-heon’s difficulty in healing. She can’t help but see him in a new light and understand him just a little bit better.
Upon leaving, Jin-heon takes Sam-soon aside and asks why she’s there. His mother invited her, she says. He tells her not to listen to his mother, only to him. She, having had enough of his family’s ridiculousness, tells him, in the words of LD, to, “Go f— themselves.” She won’t let either of them mess with her anymore. And to show how serious she is, she hands him a letter of resignation. She quits!!! Unfortunately, she didn’t think far enough ahead because both Jin-Heon’s mom and Jin-heon drive off with out Sam-soon, leaving her behind to walk/take the bus home.
When Sam-soon gets off the bus and begins walking home, she sees Jin-heon waiting for her with a bouquet of roses. These are not roses to romance Sam-soon, no. They are roses to convince her not to quit. Sam-soon is really unimpressed and tells him if he really wants her to stay as pasterier, he should get on his knees and beg. He does! bwahaha!
It works. Sam-soon goes back to the restaurant. Once there, her annoying ‘frienemy’ Chae-Ri (and current fiance to Sam-soon’s ex) verbally attacks her for trying to seduce her fiance. Sam-soon is so annoyed she throws flour on her and chases her out of the restaurant. lol!
Next is an awkward, but apparently kdrama necessary, scene of Sam-soon and Jin-heon both on the pot. Toilet humor abounds! (if I had made up a drinking game, this scene would be at least 5 drinks)
Jin-heon needs Sam-soon to get him some toilet paper. She tells him not to worry, she will be right back with it. She never returns. Very nice. Once he finally escapes the bathroom and finds her eating lunch with her coworkers, he tells her she should eat more fiber as it helps with constipation. (oh snap!) Rather than shrinking from embarrassment, she tells him he should too as it will help him with his diarrhea. (double snap!) Sam-soon, rather than let Jin-heon respond, mentions that she would like to go dancing and would anyone like to join her. All the ladies raise their hands.
At the club, she is figuratively slapped in the face with the fact that she’s older than the guys there would like and it gives her a major case of the ‘sads’. She goes home and instead of finding solace and support in her family, she gets assaulted by her crazy mother demanding to know why Sam-soon agreed to be in a fake relationship (gasp! she knows!)
Ugh, this is so depressing! How is it Sam-soon’s fault all the guys she meets are asshats? Why is her mother beating her up and calling her pathetic?! How does that help the situation?! Geezus mom! Chill out! It was a fake relationship, get over it.
Well, I mean, it is kinda a big deal. Sam-soon did put herself in a position to be perceived as a prostitute if she ‘sold’ herself for 50K. Doesn’t matter that nothing happened…it will still look bad if it gets out. So I guess mom does have a point…but bad timing!!!
However, mom, fuming, goes to the restaurant and demands to know just WTH Jin-heon was thinking when he chose her daughter to be his fake girlfriend. She is pissed…majorly pissed. Sam-soon and her sister come in to the restaurant searching for their mother and are both extremely embarrassed by her behavior.
Ultimately, after a much calmer discussion, Sam-soon tells Jin-heon that she CAN quit him and the restaurant. She packs up her stuff, hands in her name tag and leaves as Jin-heon watches quietly from the window.
Hey, at least with this episode, I didn’t get the overwhelming urge to throw my computer out the window. Good thing, right?
